About the platform, pricing, and who we are

What is File Converter Free?

File Converter Free is a web-based platform for converting, compressing, and editing files. It supports 215+ file formats across 8 converter categories (images, videos, audio, documents, ebooks, archives, fonts, presentations), 8 dedicated file compressors, and 75+ specialized online tools for image editing, PDF work, developer utilities, calculators, and text processing.

Every tool runs entirely in your browser - your files never leave your device. Video conversion uses FFmpeg.wasm, document conversion uses in-browser engines, image processing uses Canvas and WebAssembly. No uploads, no servers, instant results.

How is File Converter Free different from other converters?

Three key differences set us apart:

  • Most tools process files in your browser - no upload needed, zero privacy risk
  • Completely free with no registration, no watermarks, no file limits on browser tools
  • Not just a converter - 75+ additional tools (image editors, developer tools, calculators, text utilities)

We use professional-grade open-source tools compiled to WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm, ImageMagick.wasm) running directly in your browser, delivering quality that matches paid alternatives - with zero privacy risk.

What types of files can I work with?

The platform handles files across three main areas:

  • File Converters: Convert between 215+ formats: images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, SVG, 70+), videos (MP4, AVI, MOV, WebM, 30+), audio (MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, 50+), documents (PDF, DOCX, XLSX), ebooks (EPUB, MOBI), archives (ZIP, 7Z), fonts (TTF, WOFF2), presentations (PPTX, ODP)
  • File Compressors: Reduce file sizes across 8 categories: image, video, audio, document, ebook, archive, font, and presentation compressors with adjustable quality settings
  • Online Tools: 75+ free tools: image editor, color picker, JSON formatter, JWT decoder, hash generator, QR code generator, unit converter, password generator, and many more
What formats are supported?

215+ formats organized into 8 converter categories:

  • Images: 80+ formats (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, SVG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, PSD, RAW formats)
  • Videos: 32+ formats (MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV, WebM, FLV, WMV)
  • Audio: 55+ formats (MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, WMA, OPUS)
  • Documents: PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, TXT, RTF, ODT, ODS
  • Ebooks: EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, PDF
  • Plus: Archives (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR), Fonts (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2), Presentations (PPTX, ODP)

Each converter page lists all supported input and output formats for that category.

Is File Converter Free really free?

Yes, completely free. No hidden costs, no premium tiers, no subscription plans. All 215+ format conversions, all 8 compressors, and all 75+ tools are available at no charge. There are no paid features.

The platform is funded by minimal, non-intrusive advertising. The service will remain free - no bait-and-switch.

Who operates File Converter Free?

File Converter Free is built and maintained by Emir Baycan through Kalenux Bilisim Hizmetleri Ticaret Limited Sirketi, a registered technology company in Istanbul, Turkey. The company is D&B verified (DUNS: 751149242).

Emir is a full-stack developer who personally maintains every aspect of the service - backend infrastructure, conversion pipelines, frontend interfaces, and multilingual content. For support, contact dev.emirbaycan@gmail.com.

How fast are conversions?

All tools run in your browser so there is no upload wait time. Simple operations (image editing, JSON formatting, calculators, text tools) are instant. Video and audio processing with FFmpeg.wasm depends on your device speed and file size - modern devices handle most files in seconds.

Because processing happens on your device, speed scales with your hardware. A modern desktop or laptop will outperform older servers for many operations, and a phone can still handle most conversions comfortably.

Are there any file size limits?

There are no file size limits. All tools process files locally in your browser on your device - the only limit is your device's available memory. Convert files of any size completely free.

These limits keep the service free and responsive. Most common use cases fall well within the limits.

  • Additional Categories: Archives (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR using 7-Zip), fonts (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2 using FontForge), and presentations (PPTX, ODP using LibreOffice).
How do browser-based tools work?

Most of our 75+ online tools run entirely in your web browser:

  • Local Processing: Your files stay on your device. JavaScript and WebAssembly handle everything locally - no upload to any server.
  • Instant Results: No waiting for uploads or downloads. Processing starts immediately and results appear in real-time.
  • Works Offline: Once the page loads, browser-based tools work even without internet. Your data never touches a network.

Browser tools include: image editor, color picker, JSON formatter, JWT decoder, Base64 encoder, hash generator, QR code generator, unit converter, and many more.

What are the technical requirements?

The platform works on any modern device with a web browser:

  • Web Browser: Chrome 90+, Firefox 88+, Safari 14+, or Edge 90+. Latest versions recommended.
  • No Installation: Everything runs in the browser. No software, plugins, or extensions needed.
  • Any Device: Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Fully responsive design.
  • Internet: Required for server-side conversions. Browser tools work offline after page load.

For large file uploads, a stable internet connection of 5+ Mbps is recommended.

How do I convert a file step by step?

File conversion takes four simple steps:

1. Choose your converter - Select from image, video, audio, document, ebook, archive, font, or presentation converter.

2. Upload your file - Drag and drop or click to browse. Multiple files supported for batch conversion.

3. Select output format - Pick from the supported output formats. Adjust quality settings if available.

4. Download the result - Conversion typically takes seconds. Download your converted file directly.

Can I convert multiple files at once?

Yes, batch conversion is supported. Upload multiple files and convert them all to the same output format simultaneously. Files are processed in parallel on the server for faster results.

This is useful for standardizing image formats, converting photo collections, or processing document libraries.

What quality settings are available?

Quality settings vary by file type: image compressors let you adjust quality percentage and dimensions, video compressors offer bitrate and resolution control, audio compressors provide bitrate selection (96-320kbps for MP3). Higher quality means larger file sizes.

For conversions, the platform uses optimal default settings for each format. The output matches the quality of the source file within the target format's capabilities.

Can I convert DRM-protected files?

No. DRM-protected files (purchased movies, music with copy protection, locked ebooks) cannot be converted. This is a legal restriction. Password-protected archives can be handled if you provide the password.

If a conversion fails, you will see a clear error message. The most common reasons are corrupted source files, unsupported format variants, or network interruptions during upload.

What happens if a conversion fails?

You will see an error message explaining the issue. Your original file is never modified or deleted. You can try again with different settings or a different output format at no cost.

Common causes: corrupted source file, unsupported format variant, or network interruption during upload. Try re-uploading or contact dev.emirbaycan@gmail.com if the issue persists.

When in doubt, choose the most widely supported format for your target platform.

What format categories are supported?

The platform covers 8 converter categories with 215+ total formats:

  • Image Formats (80+): JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, BMP, SVG, HEIC, PSD, RAW, ICO, and many more
  • Video Formats (32+): MP4, AVI, MKV, MOV, WebM, FLV, WMV, OGV, and more
  • Audio Formats (55+): MP3, FLAC, WAV, AAC, OGG, WMA, OPUS, AIFF, and more
  • Document Formats: PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, TXT, RTF, ODT, ODS, HTML
  • Ebook Formats: EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, PDF
  • Archive Formats: ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2
  • Font & Presentation: Fonts: TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, EOT. Presentations: PPTX, ODP, PDF
How do I choose the right format?

Consider three factors: compatibility (will the recipient's device/software support it?), quality (do you need lossless or is some compression acceptable?), and file size (do you have storage or bandwidth constraints?).

For sharing online, use widely supported formats: JPG/WebP for images, MP4 for video, MP3 for audio, PDF for documents. For archival or editing, use lossless formats: PNG for images, FLAC for audio, TIFF for print.

If you are unsure, stick with the most common format in each category (JPG, MP4, MP3, PDF). These work on virtually every device and platform.

Can I convert between any two formats?

Conversions work within the same media category: image to image, video to video, audio to audio, document to document. Some cross-category conversions are also supported, like extracting audio from video (MP4 to MP3) or converting images to PDF.

You cannot convert completely unrelated types (e.g., an image to an audio file). If a conversion is not possible, the output format simply will not appear as an option.

Some conversions may lose certain features. For example, converting a multi-layer PSD to JPG flattens all layers. Converting animated GIF to PNG keeps only the first frame.

What quality can I expect?

Quality depends on the source file and target format. Lossless to lossless conversions (PNG to TIFF) preserve full quality. Lossy formats (JPG, MP3) involve some quality reduction, but we use optimal encoder settings to minimize visible or audible differences.

We use professional-grade tools: FFmpeg for video/audio, ImageMagick for images, LibreOffice for documents, Calibre for ebooks. These are the same tools used in professional production environments.

Tip: always start with the highest quality source file available. You cannot improve quality beyond the original through conversion.

How do downloads work?

All results are generated locally in your browser and downloaded directly to your device - no server involved at any step. Your converted file is created in-memory and saved directly from your browser.

Since everything runs locally, you can convert the same file as many times as you like instantly. If you need the file again, just drop it back in - it is free and immediate.

For batch conversions, you can download files individually as they complete.

Privacy & Security

How we handle your files and protect your data

How do you protect my privacy?

Privacy is a core design principle, not an afterthought:

  • Browser-First Processing: Most tools run in your browser. Your files never leave your device for these operations.
  • Never Leaves Your Device: All processing runs in your browser - your files never exist on any server at any point.
  • TLS 1.3 Encryption: All connections use TLS 1.3 encryption. Files in transit are fully protected.
  • No Tracking: No tracking cookies, no behavioral profiling, no analytics on your files.
  • No Third-Party Sharing: Your files are never shared with, sold to, or accessed by third parties.

We do not know what files you convert, what formats you use, or how often you visit.

What control do I have over my data?

You have full control:

  • No Account Required: Use every tool without registration. No personal data collected.
  • Anonymous Usage: We do not track users. Each visit is independent with no history stored.
  • Local Processing: For browser-based tools, data never leaves your device. You are in complete control.
  • Zero Server Storage: Your files never leave your browser - there is nothing to delete on any server.

For privacy questions, contact dev.emirbaycan@gmail.com.

Do you store or analyze my files?

No. Your files never reach our servers at all - processing happens entirely in your browser. We have no access to your files, cannot analyze them, cannot share them, and have nothing to store.

Every tool on the platform - image converters, video converters, document tools, and all utilities - runs locally on your device using WebAssembly. Your files stay in your browser's memory and are gone when you close the tab.

We maintain basic server logs for error monitoring and nothing more. No conversion history, no file metadata, no usage patterns.

Where are your servers located?

Our website infrastructure is hosted in EU-based data centers for GDPR compliance. However, file processing itself never happens on our servers - it runs entirely in your browser on your own device.

The website uses TLS 1.3 with forward secrecy, rate limiting, and security headers (CSP, X-Frame-Options). Since we never receive your files, there is no file storage to encrypt or protect.

EU-based hosting means the strongest privacy laws apply to any website data (logs, analytics), but your files are never part of that equation - they never leave your device.

Is my data encrypted?

Yes. All connections use TLS 1.3 encryption with forward secrecy for website traffic. But for your files specifically, encryption is not even needed - because your files never travel over any network connection at all.

Your files stay entirely within your browser's memory during processing. They are never uploaded, never transmitted, never stored. The strongest encryption is no encryption needed at all.

We implement security headers, rate limiting, and regular dependency audits to protect the platform itself.

Do you comply with GDPR?

Yes. We comply with GDPR requirements: data minimization (we collect almost nothing), purpose limitation (files processed only for conversion), storage limitation (immediate deletion), and transparency (clear privacy policy).

Since we do not require accounts and do not store personal data, most GDPR data subject rights are satisfied by default - there is no data to access, correct, or delete.

Our EU server locations ensure your data remains under EU jurisdiction and the strongest privacy protections available.

Technical Help

Troubleshooting, browser support, and requirements

What should I do if I have a problem?

Try these steps in order:

  • Refresh: Reload the page and try again. Most temporary issues resolve with a refresh.
  • Clear Cache: Clear your browser cache and cookies, then retry.
  • Try Another Browser: Test with Chrome, Firefox, or Safari to rule out browser-specific issues.
  • Contact Us: If the issue persists, email dev.emirbaycan@gmail.com with details about the problem.

Include: what you were trying to do, the file type, your browser, and any error messages.

What devices and browsers are supported?

The platform works on all modern devices and browsers:

  • Browsers: Chrome 90+, Firefox 88+, Safari 14+, Edge 90+. Latest versions recommended for best performance.
  • Mobile: iOS 14+ (iPhone, iPad) and Android 10+ with any modern browser. Fully responsive touch interface.
  • Desktop: Windows 10/11, macOS 11+, Linux. All operating systems fully supported.
  • Requirements: Minimum 2GB RAM, any internet connection. Server-side conversions are not affected by your device specs.
  • Display: Responsive design works from mobile (320px) to ultra-wide monitors. No minimum resolution needed.

Server-side processing happens on our servers, so conversion quality is identical whether you use a phone or a workstation.

Why is my file not uploading?

Common upload issues: File is corrupted, internet connection is unstable, or browser extensions are interfering. There are no file size limits, so size is not a factor.

Try: refreshing the page, checking file size, verifying the file opens normally on your device, trying a different browser, or temporarily disabling ad blockers.

If the problem persists, try incognito/private mode to rule out extension conflicts. Contact dev.emirbaycan@gmail.com with details.

Do I need to install anything?

No. File Converter Free works entirely in your web browser. No desktop software, browser plugins, or mobile apps required. Just open the website and start using it.

This means it works on any device with a browser, including locked-down work computers where you cannot install software. Always up to date, no manual updates needed.

The platform is available in 9 languages (English, Turkish, Arabic, German, Spanish, Hindi, Russian, Chinese, Indonesian) and accessible from anywhere.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes. The interface is fully responsive and optimized for touch. Works on iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets. You can upload files from your device's photo library or file system.

All features work identically on mobile and desktop. For large file uploads, WiFi is recommended to save mobile data.

Browser-based tools like the image editor, color picker, and text tools work particularly well on mobile since they process locally without needing to upload anything.

What internet speed do I need?

Any modern connection works. Browser-based tools need no internet after the page loads. For server-side conversions: 1 Mbps minimum, 5+ Mbps recommended, 10+ Mbps ideal for large files.

Internet speed only affects upload and download times - the actual conversion happens on our servers regardless of your connection speed.

For large files, a wired connection is faster than WiFi. Closing bandwidth-heavy applications during upload can also help.
